Liam

Another vote for GTA! With no GTA maybe there'd be no Hitman?

great new blog! i vote grand theft auto. i don't even like those games much, but the free-roam aspect of the city they developed was amazing and has been snapped up by all different kinds of games.

Grant,

GTA is definitely way up there on the list, the freedom in that game really blew me away when I first played it.

Dave,

I remember in my earlier days I used to use drumming as a break from the rigours of disciplined gaming. Definitely not productive.

I also agree about HL2. Every drummer needs a break from the rigour of disciplined practice and there's nothing better than to let your hair down and pwn some headcrabs and zombies...and combine soldiers!!

I would have to agree about Half-life 2. It was very innovative and set the standard for games in the future.
Although I have already said that Half-life 2 would be my choice, I cast a glance at my pile of games and I noticed another game that really set a standard for the gaming world:
Grand Theft Auto
In my opinion GTA has the best open world gameplay out of most of the modern games. This being said, I would probably still go for Half-Life 2 as it was so influential.
